Family, BHS66, and Misc.

Family:
My oldest cousin (on the Mathesson/Chapman side) and his wife just left to drive back to Anchorage, and then fly to ATL. It is always good to see them, although we cannot understand why they visit in winter/spring, not summer. Guess it's the desire not to have to deal with the summer hordes which descend on us every year; but we tried to convince them to try it next time, so maybe they will.

I enjoy them immensely ... and sometimes think that's because of all the cousins, only four of us have "left the nest" and lived outside GA. Him (even tho' he's back in GA) because of the military, his brother for business and social reasons, another because (I think) of a desire to live in a less socially-conservative environment, and me for a combination of all those reasons. The upshot is I think the four of us can have discussions about political & social topics without fear we'll be ostracized by other family members. Don't misunderstand, there are differences in attitudes and views, but a shared "wider view" allows us to converse without fear of repercussion. NOTHING against those who stayed in GA ... but I don't think Lisa & I will ever move back, primarily due to conservative attitudes there, and the climate.

R finally disclosed what her intentions are after school... in a scholarship application, no less, not direct conversation. Was I unaware because I never asked, or some other reason? It doesn't matter, because I'm glad to finally know what direction she wants to head after school. I know she will be successful at whatever she tries, because of her intelligence, determination, and creativity... I continually regret not telling her that in the past, and never enough presently. I literally burst with pride when I talk about her with friends. (I know you read this occasionally, but sweetheart, I'm not trying to stroke you, I really do feel that way) Anyway, summer school and a (possible) autumn in Paris will increase her independence from us, which both saddens me and increases my love & admiration as she grows and matures.

BHS66 continues to gain momentum for Sept. 9th ... I must secure airline reservations and tickets ... just hope Delta is still flying then, and the pilots (or others) don't strike.

No F1 race until next weekend...

Well, shit. I'd like to comment on this, but I've got to hurry and fix supper. It's a possum I found on the side of the road and I'm not sure how fresh the kill was.

"Wider view"? Hell, you graduated from the University of Georgia! Some of those cousins of whom you speak went to real schools.

What!!! Narrow View! Conservative! Some of us bumpkins went to schools that had more than agricultural studies ;)

Some of us even had education courses and English courses.

But we still love ya Uncle Bill.

You know, we may be in Georgia, but we talk to people -- interact with them and have relationships. Is it not true that since you left Georgia you've spent your life isolated from folks on a variety of wildlife refuges? Did you get your sophisticated world view from bears?

For leaving Georgia,
For leaving the 'nest',
For not defining 'socially conservative,
For departing 'conservative attitudes',
For conversing w/o fear of repercussion,
For drinking alone,
For not speaking ill of all your cousins,
For not mentioning all the above when you do visit Georgia,

For that - your country and all Georgians say --

THANK YOU!

You young wipper snapper, you've got some 'plaining' to do during you next visit to Georgia, if there is one.
Before you sit at my table and enjoy my fine fried oakra, creamed corn, slow cooked roast, new potatoes, cracklin corn bread and southern sweet tea, not to mention my famous deee-serts, you and I will have to 'converse' about whom is less socially conservative and why, what is wrong with conservative 'attitudes' and a host of other such issues.
Perhaps you preacher brother might even withhold his blessings until you 'vest up', 'come clean' and square things away bout your cousins and family. By the way, you'll have to leave the sidearm in the trunk since no proper southern boy brings his piece to the table.
I affectionally await you clarification.
